New gas and oil pipelines are constantly looking to deliver longer service lives and as such special treatments are being applied to their outer surfaces to maximise their life expectancy.

As a result of this, it is critical that the pipeline surface coating is not damaged during backfilling operations, and as such a sacrificial geotextile protection layer is often placed around the pipe prior to placement in the trench.
